As promised, President Barack Obama’s 2015 State of the Union Address was chock-full of initiatives to bolster the middle class and make education affordable for both college students and preschoolers.
He began with a heartfelt message to Americans, thanking them for their endurance and hard work and marking a special occasion years in the making.
“Tonight, for the first time since 9/11, our combat mission in Afghanistan is over,” Obama said. “Six years ago, nearly 180,000 American troops served in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
He continued, outlining his vision for middle-class economics, with proposals that will make community college free for two years, raise the minimum wage, provide paid sick leave for employees and implement tax hikes on the wealthy.
“Middle class economics works…as long as politics don’t get in the way,” he said.
