President Obama Makes Speech In Selma March 2015 Justin Sullivan

Yesterday, we witnessed the President of the United States make history right before our own eyes.

In commemoration of Martin Luther King‘s iconic march in Selma, Alabama, Barack Obama marched on the same bridge (Edmond Pettus Bridge) MLK marched on 50 years ago, with his family, several civil rights leaders, and members of Congress.

Obama said during his speech:

That’s why Selma is not some outlier in the American experience. That’s why it’s not a museum or static monument to behold from a distance. It is instead the manifestation of a creed written into our founding documents:

“We the Peoplein order to form a more perfect union.”

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”
