In June 2014, Jason Harrison was shot down by police after authorities were contacted by his mother, who told them that her son was making “violent threats.”
The 28-year-old suffered from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and was holding a screwdriver in which he refused to put down after police orders.
Today, the family has released the graphic video of the shooting by Dallas officers, where Harrison was fatally shot 5 times. They obtained the footage from the police department as evidence during their federal civil rights lawsuit that was filed in October.
According to Dallas News, the family believes that excessive force was used by the police, and hope this video “should spark reforms for policies and training on how police interact with the mentally ill.”
